salt spring island healing salty mineral springs water There are many spas in Canada, but very few offer their guests what the word really means: a health resort near a mineral spring. The island's salt springs located on the resort property represent the only known mineral water springs in the Gulf Islands.

When the resort first opened we used to apologize to guests for the salty water in the taps. Drilling for drinking water, we found 20 gallons a minute in a well 150 feet below the ocean floor. What at first was believed to be sea water, contained less than 10 percent of the salt found in the ocean. 16 minerals were found after testing and today the content remains the same.

The mineral waters are high in magnesium, calcium, sodium and potassium. This unique alkaline composition helps to increase the permeability of the skin so that minerals can penetrate more easily to underlying blood and lymphatic systems. The chlorides make the body more buoyant, helping to lift the spirits and ease joint fatigue. Guests rave that the waters relieve dry skin and leave it feeling silky, fresh, invigorated and toned.

The heated mineral water stimulates blood circulation, invigorating the skin, the largest organ of the body. Specialized lymphocytes cleanse the blood. This begins the internal detoxification process. The heated blood brings nutrients to the cells, metabolism increases, waste products are removed and tight joints and muscles are soothed. Perspiration releases toxins; leaving the skin deeply cleansed.

The healing spring water is piped in directly to the Spa and the Chalets allowing guests to indulge from the privacy of their 2-person jacuzzi spa baths.
